9 FREE and Low-Cost Things to Do at Disney World

A Disney World vacation doesn’t all have to be about being in the parks or going on rides. Here’s a list of 9 great things to do for free or low-cost outside the parks.

1. Explore Disney Springs

Disney Springs is a vibrant shopping, dining, and entertainment area set apart from the theme parks that offers a variety of experiences without an entry fee. You can stroll along the waterfront, enjoy live music, and explore unique shops. It’s a great place to relax, grab a bite, and enjoy the atmosphere without the hustle of the theme parks.

2. Visit the BoardWalk

The Disney BoardWalk is a charming area filled with entertainment options, including street performers and games for a small fee. You can take a leisurely walk along the water, rent a surrey bike, or simply enjoy the sights and sounds of this lively area. Prettiest at night, it’s a perfect spot for an evening stroll with beautiful views.

3. Resort Hop via the Monorail Loop

Riding the monorail is a fun and free way to see some of Disney’s most famous resorts. The monorail loop connects Disney's Polynesian Village Resort, the luxurious Grand Floridian, and the iconic Contemporary Resort along with the entrance to Magic Kingdom. Hop on and off at your leisure  to explore the stunning architecture and décor of each resort.

You can also take a gorgeous, relaxing ferry ride from the Magic Kingdom to the Wilderness Lodge or Ft. Wilderness to explore even more of what Disney World has to offer.

4. Participate in Free or Low-Cost Activities at your Resort

Many Disney resorts offer free activities for guests, such as movie nights under the stars, crafts, and games. Check your resort's schedule upon arrival to find out what activities are available during your stay. These events are a great way to unwind after a day of exploring. Many resorts also have arcades with both new and classic games you can play for a small fee.

5. Visit Animal Kingdom Lodge

Animal Kingdom Lodge provides a unique opportunity to see over 200 animals, including zebras and giraffes, roaming freely in the savannahs surrounding the lodge. Each savannah is home to different species of animals and cultural representatives are often on hand to tell you what you might see. Explore the resort, visiting both Jambo House and Kidani Village to enjoy animal viewing areas. This immersive experience is perfect for animal lovers and offers a peaceful retreat from the theme parks .

6. Watch the Electrical Water Pageant

This charming water parade takes place on Bay Lake and Seven Seas Lagoon, featuring illuminated floats and music. View the show from various locations, including the beaches of the Polynesian, Grand Floridian, and Ft. Wilderness. It’s a magical way to end the day without spending a dime.

7. Ride the Disney Skyliner

The Disney Skyliner is a free gondola transportation system that offers stunning views of the resort. Families can board the Skyliner at various locations, including Epcot and Hollywood Studios, and travel to several resorts. The ride is not only practical but also provides a unique perspective of the Disney landscape, making it a fun experience for all ages.

8. Visit the Tri-Circle-D Ranch at Fort Wilderness

Explore the Tri-Circle-D Ranch to see the horses that participate in Disney's parades. This area also features a small museum showcasing the history of Disney and its equine companions.

Fort Wilderness offers a beautiful natural setting with trails for walking, biking, and spotting wildlife. It’s a serene escape from the parks with lots of other activities available for a fee such as archery lessons, boating and fishing, and a Segway tour.

9. Watch the Nightly Fireworks

For spectacular fireworks views outside the parks, consider the following locations:

  • Disney's Polynesian Village Resort Beach: This spot offers a perfect view of the Magic Kingdom fireworks, along with a relaxing beach atmosphere.

  • The BoardWalk: This area provides a great vantage point for Epcot’s fireworks show, Harmonious, and is lively with entertainment.

Or ask the front desk or concierge at your resort if there are any great viewing spots. We discovered a great view from the 6th floor of the Wilderness Lodge that way and we’re the only ones there!
