In 2022, my husband and I were headed out on vacation to Hawaii.
We always fly economy because we choose to invest our vacation dollars in other experiences on our trip rather than upgraded seats. For this particular trip, we chose Hawaiian Airlines. I discovered that sometimes they’ll email you with an opportunity to bid for an upgrade to first class.
Flying first class was something I had always dreamed of!
It seemed like the bid for upgrade would be an amount we were comfortable with, so I decided that if I got that email I’d go for it.
While waiting for the email to come, once a day I'd pop open the seat map to see if there were first class seats available.
There were! Then, I’d take my mouse pointer and circle 2 seats.
In my heart I’d feel and KNOW these 2 seats were our 2 seasons.
In my mind I’d think, these 2 seats are our 2 seats.
I was just having fun, being silly and playful with it. It didn’t matter one way or the other if it happened, we were already going to Hawaii - that’s a win right there!
Soon before it was time to fly I got the email…
I put in the absolute lowest bid possible. Inside I felt if we get it great and if we don't, great.
Guess what happened?
24 hours before our flight I got an email saying we’d won the bid!

The seats that we were assigned were directly behind the 2 that everyday I’d been circling and circling and circling..
